Can I wash the pillow?
Can I wash the pillow?
You can wash the cotton pillow case on a 40 degree wash and air dry.
If you want to wash the down insert we recommend: Machine washing, use a large-capacity washer (front-loaders work better than agitator top-loaders, which can damage the pillow). Wash on a gentle or delicate cycle with warm water, using a small amount of mild liquid detergent — avoid powder detergent, as it can leave residue in the down, and skip fabric softener and bleach entirely. It's best to wash two pillows at once if you can, so the drum stays balanced. Run an extra rinse cycle to make sure all the soap is out, since leftover detergent will make the down clump and smell musty over time.
Drying is the part that really matters: tumble dry on low heat for an extended time (often an hour or more), and throw in a few clean tennis balls or wool dryer balls to help break up clumps and redistribute the down as it dries. Stop periodically to fluff the pillow by hand. The pillow must be completely, bone-dry before you stop — any residual dampness inside the fill can lead to mildew or a lingering odor, since down is slow to dry all the way through.
What's the benefit of down fill?
What's the benefit of down fill?
down is soft and pliable, it molds to the shape of your head and shoulders rather than pushing back rigidly, which many people find more comfortable than firmer synthetic fills. Down is also naturally breathable, allowing better airflow than dense synthetic fibers, which helps regulate temperature and reduce that overheated, sweaty feeling some pillows cause overnight.
